This is a rare opportunity to purchase a refined, well-appointed mid-century modern home designed by architect Charles Schreiber and built by Allied Construction, in 1961. The homeowners re-built this home from a shell, including all new house systems and mechanics to bring it into the 21st century, while maintaining the mid-century authentic appeal of this home. The home features 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms and 1636 square feet of livable space.

The front yard was completely re-designed and re-graded. New sleek white rock, native boulders, landscape lighting and plants were installed. Mature palm trees are highlighted with line-wired spot lights. The rear yard has been re-designed with a resort-lifestyle in mind. New grass, sprinkler systems with timer controls, hand-built welded steel frame edging, plants, lighting, native boulders, white rock and concrete pads were installed to accentuate the new 2006 constructed California Pools custom pool. The pool features a salt water system, gas heater, brand new pool pump, motor and timer and a pool light with color wheel. For about $40 for a weekend, the pool can be heated when it's not swimming season. The rear patio is tucked under the main roof and doesn't receive any direct sunlight. This is the perfect area for a classic mid-century modern table and chair set. The entire length of the rear block wall has been re-built and raised. The homeowners added a curve to the side wall for character and the entire wall sits on a heavy-duty solid footing with reinforced steel.

The original footprint of the house has been maintained. Several improvements to the flow of the home were made. The wall between the great room and dining room was removed and a header was installed to properly support the opening. The dining room sliding glass door replaced a large picture window, providing greater access to the rear yard. The window above the kitchen sink was enlarged to create more of an indoor/outdoor connection.

The kitchen has been completely remodeled and designed to create a commercial/industrial kitchen space. High-end commerical appliances were installed, including a DCS gas range/convection oven, stainless steel Zephyr hood, stainless steel Bosch dishwasher and stainless steel KitchenAid refrigerator. Additional kitchen features include santize-grade stainless steel sink and prep counter, antimicrobial Stellar Snow Silestone countertops, stainless steel kitchen cabinetry, heavy-duty disposal and a commercial faucet. New recessed lighting was added into the kitchen area. An inside laundry and open pantry area is located off the kitchen with stacked Bosch washer and dryer.

The bathrooms have both been remodeled. The master bathroom features a skylight for constant day-lighting. A new walk-in Biazza glass mosaic lined shower was installed, along with a pedestal sink, Grohe and Danze fixtures, new vent fan, new lighting, Kohler toilet and mirrored wall.

The guest bathroom features new glass mosaic tile with built-in tiled shelving, glass block for privacy, new Kohler sink and toilet, Grohe and Pegasus plumbing fixtures, new vent fan and new lighting.

The great room features an exposed aggregate block fireplace. The homeowners converted the fireplace to gas, cleaned the entire chimney and interior fire bricks and installed a fire and ice feature that allows the fire to shimmer.

This home has received a lot of publicity for it's unique mid-century modern style and it's immaculate renovation. It has been featured on a Modern Phoenix home tour in 2008. It has also received press in the Arizona Republic, Scottsdale Tribune & Desert Living magazine. It has been used for advertising created for Fender Instruments and PCA Skincare. This home was selected as a 'Cool Home' on a 12 News TV's news segment in 2008. A similar home in Arcadia with this same floorplan and elevation is featured in the coffee table book 'The Ranch House' by Alan Hess, an architectural author/critic from San Jose, CA. A similar mid-century modern Charles Schreiber home is going to be featured in the July 2010 national Sunset magazine.

The window and doors throughout have all been replaced, with the exception of the original floor-to-ceiling windows up front (they don't receive any direct sunlight). The window series is by IWC and they are dual pane, Low-E anodized aluminum frame windows. The slider off the dining room is a top-of-the line Fleetwood 3000 anodized aluminum slider. The kitchen window was enlarged to take better advantage of the rear yard views. The interior doors have been replaced with luan wood doors. The doors were hand-sanded, stained and sealed to showcase their natural beauty and the surrounding door frames were replaced to match the new wood color. Every interior door features solid brass chromed Baldwin door knobs. The 2 guest bedrooms feature contemporary frameless mirrored closet doors. New baseboards and a solid core front door were added to match the new casework throughout the home.

Security features include high-end Medeco locks (double dead-bolted) on the exterior doors, a stainless steel locking mailbox, security light in the carport and locks on the carport and rear yard gates. The rear and carport gates are custom-built powder-coated steel frame with galvanized covers.

This North/South-oriented block-built home has been made more energy efficient with the addition of IWC dual pane, low-e anodized aluminum frame windows, a Fleetwood 3000 series sliding glass door, Top-of-the line 19 seer Trane AC unit and furnace and new light colored exterior paint. The entire attic (every square inch) was vacuumed and completely cleaned. Then, new high-efficiency blown-in insulation was installed.

Several original features are unique to this style of home. There are vaulted ceilings throughout the great room, dining room and kitchen with restored ceiling beams that have been hand-ground, stained and sealed to bring out their natural beauty. There are 4 floor-to-ceiling windows which overlook the immaculate front yard and provide a panoramic view of the open interior. Unique block details help distinguish this home was similar traditional ranch homes in the area. The original concrete floors throughout the home have been professionally diamond-grinded, stained and sealed by Dana at Concretizen (her commercial work can be seen at Kierland Commons). Only 19 of this elevation were built out of 1002 homes in all of Village Grove, as it was the most expensive home available at the time. Today it still retains its custom feel and stands out amongst the surrounding traditional ranch style homes.

This property features many reproduction and original vintage items, such as the Neutra house numbers by House Industries, the hallway light fixture in an original vintage metal adjustable cone light. The hanging ball exterior lights are reproductions of a vintage style commonly seen in this type of home. Custom period-specific pinch-style draperies were installed in the great room and master bedroom.

The electrical system has been updated to include a brand new 200 amp panel, new power lines and connections to the home, new GFCI outlets installed in kitchen, baths and storage room, new cable lines, new telephone lines, new house lighting and new hard-wired line voltage lighting in the front yard and all existing wiring was brought up to current code requirements.

The plumbing system is run in copper and the homeowners ran new sewer lines with cleanouts, installed inside laundry facilities, replaced old water lines to the kitchen and bathroom sinks with braided, stainless steel water lines. The water pressure has been adjusted to an optimal level, a pressure relief valve was installed in the back of the house and a gas line was run to the BBQ area and the fireplace.

The storage room has been completely gutted and finished inside with drywall. This space could easily be re-designed to accommodate a guest quarters, as it has existing sewer lines, electric and water lines in place.

The roof is new with architectural composition shingles, new attic vents and a new chimney vent.

Improvements and upgrades tied to renovation valued at $200,000.
