This historic mid-century (1958) Allied ranch home has been elegantly restovated (renovated AND restored). The front elevation has been rehabilitated with the installation of a historically-correct front porch, per builder's original design, and fresh exterior paint from the Sherwin Williams 1950s preservation paint palette. New xeriscape low-water landscaping, including native Saguaros with state tags, is on a timed drip system with solar landscape lighting which allow the home to be more eco-conscious. The band of bricks that lines the lower portion of the front of the home and batten wood siding that lines the upper portion of the front entry area are untouched facade treatments that are original to the home. Lattice along the open carport encourage potted plants to create a wall of greenery. Original steel casement windows have been restored in order to keep with the historic integrity of the home. The home is located close to the Old Town Scottsdale restaurant and arts district, Papago Park, Phoenix Zoo, Phoenix Botanical Gardens, Scottsdale greenbelt, Scottsdale Fashion Square, renovated pedestrian/bike-friendly Crosscut canal, Skysong (with Farmer's Market on Thursday nights), ASU, spring training facilities and the 202 and 101 freeways. Home features views to the beautiful Papago Buttes.

The home features 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, 1619 square feet of livable space and a 7931 square foot North-South oriented lot.
The formal family room features neutral ceramic tile in the entry paired with planks of new modern wood-grain tile. The Sherwin Williams 1950s preservation paint palette brightens the entire home with retro modern wall colors and custom mid-century reproduction drapes dress up the windows. The formal dining room features a contemporary drum light fixture and ceramic tile.
The living room is located off the kitchen, which features a breakfast bar. It features ceramic tile floors, new paint, ceiling fan and French door access to the rear covered patio and swimming pool. There is also access to the inside laundry room and carport, from the living room.

The kitchen was completely renovated in 2009. Brand new crisp white raised panel cabinetry was installed with decorative fluted glass upper cabinets, lazy susan corner cabinet, large pot/pan drawers and new pulls/handles. A new suite of high-end white Whirlpool appliances were chosen including a smooth glass touch-control cooktop, wall-mounted oven and microwave, dishwasher and refrigerator. The finishing details include white dual basin porcelain apron-front farm sink, polished nickel fixtures, white and black tiled countertops and backsplash, breakfast bar with decorative amber glass pendant lights and ceramic tile floors.

The floorplan has been reconfigured to create a large master suite, while maintaining the 2 additional bedrooms. The 1st bedroom is located at the front of the home and features neutral carpeting and new paint. The 2nd bedroom also has neutral carpeting and new paint, with direct access to the common/hall bathroom. The enlarged master bedroom is very spacious and features a full bathroom with travertine-lined shower/tub, maple raised panel vanity with dual sinks and ceramic tile flooring. A new large walk-in closet was built and an existing closet was preserved, allowing for plenty of clothing and shoe storage. New French doors were installed in place of an existing window, which now lead to the expansive covered patio, with a view to the manicured rear yard.

The North-facing rear yard has been completely re-landscaped and the covered patio feels like an extension of the livable space, making it perfect for indoor/outdoor living and entertaining. The classic rectangular diving pool is fenced and features a new pool pump and filter. The covered patio features rollable sunscreens on Western exposure, 2 ceiling fans, decorative brick columns, new contemporary modern lights, outlets for wall heaters or additional electronics, exterior drapes for privacy and retro circular brick fountain. The landscaping is all new with brick-colored aggregate rock, xeriscape low-water plants including 2 large bottle-brush trees, potted plants and brick-lined open sitting area. The rear yard also features an upgraded block wall for privacy. There are 2 storage areas/work rooms that can be used for multiple purposes. Currently, the climate-controlled storage/work room functions as a gardening room, complete with cabinetry and counter work area. The detached storage area makes a perfect area to store seasonal items, boxes, bikes, etc.

Village Grove was built by Allied Construction, who built simple, modern and California-style ranch homes, throughout the Phoenix metro area in the 1950s-1960s. Allied was considered one of the largest tract home builders in the Phoenix area, at the time. Village Grove tracts 1-6 were designated historic by the city of Scottsdale on June 7th, 2005. There are only 2 subdivisions currently designated as historic, in the city of Scottsdale. Both historic subdivisions are in the application process for inclusion in the National Register of Historic Places. Exterior rehabilitation programs are available for homes in Scottsdale's historic districts, offering up to $7,500 in city funding, for property owners who are interested in restoring the exterior of their homes. There is an application process and applicants have until May 1st, 2010 to apply for the funds, in accordance with the city's historic preservation guidelines.
Allied Construction homes and homes specifically in Village Grove have been featured in local and national publications and books such as The Ranch House by Alan Hess, The Wall Street Journal newspaper, Metropolitan Home magazine, Desert Living magazine, The Arizona Republic newspaper and the Scottsdale Tribune newspaper.
